College Bound Scholarship

The College Bound Scholarship must be applied for when the student is in 8th grade attending a North Thurston Public Schools middle school and is based on financial need. It covers the full cost of tuition (not room & board), plus a book allowance, to attend four years at a public college or university in Washington State. An amount close to the cost of the most expensive public college can be applied towards tuition at a private college.

To meet the pledge they made in 8th grade, seniors must:

Family financial circumstances may change between the student's 8th and 12th years of school. The FAFSA or WASFA must be completed because family income determines whether the student still qualifies for the CBS. Students should complete one of these as soon as they become available on October 1st.

  • Graduate from high school, but not necessarily with their graduating class if they are credit deficient; they may not qualify with a GED.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 upon graduation
  • No felony convictions
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or if meeting certain criteria for a non-citizen, the Washington Application for Student Aid (WASFA)
  • Begin college within one year of graduation
